Guests: Please speak to the hike leader before turning up at the meeting place. It is the hiker’s responsibility to ensure that you are capable of the day’s outing. Each hiker will need to sign the appropriate waivers to participate.
Equipment: Hiking boots, daypack with appropriate clothing, water and a lunch are required for each hike.
Arrival: Please arrive at the meeting place at least 5 minutes before the stated departure time.
Meeting Place: We meet behind Saanich Municipal Hall (SMH) ANNEX. The address is 780 Vernon Ave., it is the most southerly parking lot behind Saanich Municipal Hall unless otherwise stated on the schedule.
Responsibility: Each hiker is solely responsible for his/her personal safety. Leaders, who are volunteers and do not have special training will take appropriate precautions, but neither they nor The Outdoor Club of Victoria will be held responsible for any loss or injury. If you are uncomfortable on a hike it is up to you to request assistance.
Schedule: If a hike is substituted it will be of the same rating as the original plan.
Smoking: No smoking is permitted during transportation to a hike or during a hike.
Dogs: You are asked to leave your dog/s safely at home.
Klickage: “Km” in hike descriptions indicates total distance driven to and from the trail head. On occasion drivers need to determine klickage “dtk”. The suggested driver donation is 10 cents/Km provided at the conclusion of the day at SMH.
Membership: After completion of three hikes, guests wishing to become members are asked to submit a completed FMCBC Waiver and a Membership Application along with the payment required. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for the mailing address.
Annual Membership dues: Membership expires January 31st for all members. Renewals should be submitted to the Membership Chair by January 31st of the new year.
- Fees for social membership are $20.00.
- Fees for active membership are $30.00.
If the waiver and cheque are not received by January 31st the penalty is an additional 10%, $22.00 and $33.00. The Renewal Application form is on the Membership page for download.
Meetings and Social Events: There are 3 or 4 meetings during the year. They are followed by a slide show or special guest speaker. Visitors are welcome.
Meeting Place: Currently shared between two sites which will be clarified with each announcement.
Social Events: include the spring social, monthly lunches, summer picnic, Christmas Party and New Year’s Day pot-luck dinner.
Trips & Outings: The Club organizes an annual 10 to 14 day Summer Outing. The destinations tend to be within 1 to 2 days’ driving distance from Victoria. Short term outings usually of 3 to 4 days’ duration, are scheduled to take place during the year, and the destinations are closer to Victoria. If they take place in late fall or early spring, the group sometimes stays in visitor accommodations.
Areas visited in the past include: Waterton National Park, Glacier National Park, Banff National Park, Yoho National Park, Manning Park, Cathedral Park, Whistler-Squamish area, Mt Baker, Mt Rainier National Park, Olympic National Park, and Bend (Oregon) area, Mt. Arrowsmith, Strathcona Park, Saltspring Island, Galiano Island, Quadra Island, Bamfield and Pacific Rim National park, Mount Washington, Winthrop in Washington State, Maui and Palm Springs.
