Mount Braden Liz capably led 3 of us on a beautiful hike up the east side and down the west side of Mount Braden and Castle Peak. Delicate early spring windflowers were showing themselves in pinks, reds, blues, and brilliant yellows; and wrens sang their melodic songs. On our coffee break the loudest thing we could hear was a bee buzzing the manzanita bushes. Liz summoned good weather and even arranged for a majestic bald eagle to perch for a great photo…
Mary Hof led 13 hikers from OCV and Cowichan club on a Mount Braden hike on March 18th. “Thanks for a wonderful hike today, I was proud of you all, thanks for the opportunity to lead” Mary Hof
Peter Smith led a lively hike which took us first to Creyke Creek, then up the Interior Trail and up some more to Babbington Hill for a scenic coffee break. We then hiked down to Cabin Point and back along the Coastal Trail to Beechey Head. Spring was definitely in the air and we enjoyed the warmth of the sun. A fun hike for sure. We even sang Happy Birthday to Robin.
We hiked almost 11 kms Saturday under the leadership of Rita. It was a tough hike with lots of accent and decent made all the more challenging by the snowy and icy conditions. We had faith in our fearless leader Rita. It was a great 5 hour hike.
Six of us hiked 13 kms today around Squally Ridge, Jocelyn and Bonsai. The Arbutus trees were showing off their wonderful colours of espresso, ocre, orange and olive green. Some of our native Oregon Grape plants were looking very colourful also. As is often the case the rain held off.
